If Your Makeup Looks Flat After 50, Do This

Ever finish your makeup and think…
“Why does this look… blah?”
Not bad. Not wrong. Just flat.
If you’re over 50, you’re not imagining it. Our skin changes. It doesn’t reflect light the same way it used to, and sometimes our makeup just doesn’t pop the way it once did.
But before we talk about technique, let’s talk about something that can make a huge difference right from the start.
Sometimes makeup looks dull simply because the colors aren’t quite right for your skin tone.
If you’re cool toned, cool-toned foundation and blush will look the most natural and bright on your skin. If you’re warm toned, warm-toned colors will bring out your best glow.
The right shade matters too. If your foundation or blush is too light, your face can look washed out and a little flat. The right depth of color brings warmth and life back into the skin.
When the undertones or shade are off, makeup can look muddy or dull, even if you’re applying it perfectly.
That’s one reason I love the Restore Glow Capsule. It’s perfectly curated for your skin tone so everything works together beautifully. Starting with the right shades can make a huge difference.

Now let’s talk about how to use the products already inside your Glow Capsule to make your makeup pop even more.

Step 1: Turn Your Contour Into Bronzer
After I’ve finished my base - skin tint, brightener, contour, blush, brows, eyeshadow. I could stop there. It looks good.
But here’s where the magic happens.
I dip back into my Lift + Bronze and use it as bronzer.
Same product. Different placement.
You’ll need a fluffy brush for this. A dense brush (like the one that comes with the Glow Capsule) will deposit too much color. I like something that diffuses the product so it looks like real sun on the skin.
Here’s how I apply it:
Start at the outside of the forehead and work inward
Remember, wherever you place your brush first is where the most product will be deposited. Starting on the outside keeps the color soft and natural as you blend inward.
Sweep across the tops of the cheeks
Lightly hit the nose (you get sun there too. Don’t skip it)
A touch on the chin
And yes… blend a little down the neck
Instantly, everything looks warmer and more alive.
Already glowier, right?
Step 2: Stop Living in Neutral
Okay, I’m going to say something bold.
If you’re over 50, stop living in neutral.
I know. We’ve all been told to tone it down as we age. But here’s the truth: our skin gets duller. It actually needs more color now; not less.
After bronzer, I always bump up my cheek color just a bit. Then I make sure my lips aren’t washed out.
A touch more color on cheeks and lips makes a HUGE difference. It brings life back into the face.
We are not trying to look dramatic. We’re trying to look alive.
Step 3: Add Light Where You Want Attention
Now let’s add light strategically.
I tap a soft, light-colored, shimmer eyeshadow from my Glow Capsule:
Inner corner of the eyes
Lightly across the lid
On the tops of the cheekbones
This gives instant brightness without looking glittery.... especially since Restore's eyeshadows are talc-free!
Then I take that same shimmer and tap just a tiny bit in the center of the lips.
That little highlight makes lips look fuller and more dimensional; especially as they thin with age. It’s subtle. But it changes everything.
The Side-by-Side
When you look at the before and after, it’s the same palette. Same products.
The only difference is:
Placement
Slightly more color
Intentionally added light
That’s it. And that’s what makes it pop.
The Best Part
Everything I used is in one palette. No giant makeup bag. No 42-step routine. No starting over.
